Hello,
Out on the lake today I noticed a crack in my out out drive. Any ideas where the crack leads and if it's getting water in my engine. Is this expensive? Trying to figure out what I should do.

Doesn't look like a crack, looks like someone used a screw driver to separate the drive at one time. You should be ok.

That said, the drive should be removed at least every couple season to check motor alignment

.....and lube any zerks that may be on the drive line, and change the bellows and drain and refill the lower unit, and remove your prop and grease the prop shaft. It looks so clean that it may be a deliberate slot in the casting for the purpose of inserting a screwdriver to assist in separating the outdrive from the transom bracket.....if it is there should be one on the opposite side in the same position.

Unfortunately there's nothing on the other side. Also, Water does flow in and out of that spot.

If the question is about the “slot”, it’s on the starboard side and normal for this drive. No crack. No cause for concern. Machined in when originally manufactured. (There’s not one on the port side.)

That’s a water drain and if that slot gets clogged then it will cause a crack if water gets trapped inside & freezes. But you are missing your front anode!

In fact if you don’t pull the drive for winter storage you should at lease poke that area with a small thin screwdriver to make sure it’s not clogged, or else you can have cracking there if it freezes where you are.
