I have a 2000 Crownline with the 5.7 GS and a volvo penta sx-m drive. The tilt trim cylinders are leaking around the rams. I have checked local and internet, I can not find a breakdown on the cyclinders. I have seen a tilt trim seal kit and it includes seals for the pump, not the hydraulic rams. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks RyanDSC00740.jpg

The reason you can't find parts is because nobody rebuilds them; they are toss-aways. 'nutcase

I dont understand your post" toss aways, nutcase?? " to buy a 500 cylinder is crap, if it wasnt meant to be serviced, that cap would be sealed not threaded.

It is true VP treats the cylinders as throw away units. I had the chrome fail on mine cpl years ago and made a spanner wrench to take apart. Had local plating shop strip and nickel plate shaft and got seals at hydraulic store.

If that cap was sealed, how would they assemble it?

so far volvo offers no parts for any of their hydraulic cylinders either for the swedish drive or the kentucky built stuff.
you may find a hydraulic shop that wants to fight it but as a technician its not worth my time to go hunt.
imagine this, someone brings in a leaking cylinder, I remove it from the drive and send it someplace or attempt a repair(at 85 per hour) with parts I found someplace.
now your out joyriding with this 325 HP GXI motor and a ram fails causing a crash or worse.
will the parts supplier pay? would the hydraulic shop be responsible? would I be nailed in court? ill take door number 3.
was it my personal cylinder it may be different.
but volvo doesnt offer trim pistons, trim shafts, trim caps or any cylinder orings other than trim line attaching points.

i have the same problem-disassembled cyl today-the end cap has a scraper seal(visible) and an o-ring just inside(not visible until disassembled). i am going to attempt to crocus the rough spots at the rod and and reassemble with an o ring thats close from our transmission shop.also from the web-see below. fyi-my trim cylinders even with leakage and water intrusion were working fine.let me know if you struggle with the end cap removal and i will help you. home made spanner was useless.

i copied and pasted the following from the web
Volvo does not officially offer a reseal kit for the SX trim cylinders. With that said, OMC does offer a reseal kit which I'm told will work to reseal the SX trim cylinders as the OMC cylinders were virtually identical. As a Volvo dealer, we do not reseal Volvo trim cylinders as that is not an approved method of repair, but one of our parts dept. personel advised me that he has sold the OMC trim cylinder reseal kits over the counter to other shops/individuals that will reseal Volvo trim cylinders.

It's worth a try, the OMC trim cylinder reseal kit part number is 985060 (cost is $27.25 plus tax) compared to a new Volvo SX trim cylinder which is ($472.50 plus tax each). I opened up one of the OMC reseal kits and it does come with instructions to reseal the cylinder. You will need a spanner wrench to remove the end cap of the trim cylinder to remove it and the inner rod to replace all the orings necessary.

I strongly suggest getting the cylinder repaired or replaced as soon as possible, if water is getting into the trim system due to the faulty seal, it may ultimately ruin the trim pump (expensive).
