Is this really needed on the Penta SX-M 1.43? NO I am not talking about the thrust bearing behind the prop. I am talking about the thrust washer behind the propeller nut. The reason why I ask is because I just bought a Rev4 prop and my old thrust washer does not work on the shaft. The old thrush washer has splines in the middle to go on to the shaft. With the XHS205 hub kit I used to fit the Rev4 prop it does not work this way. Can I simply go to the hardware store and buy a big washer to replace that washer that does not fit?

Re: SX-M Thrust Washer?

I want to know the same thing, I purchased 3 different thrust washers even with part numbers and all of them are wrong !!
A good washer will take up the space between the prop and the shear pin. correct or not ??? am tired of wasting $$$.

I think we will be okay. I am just going to buy a washer thats thick and fits the shaft and run with it. I don't see anyway it could do anything bad.

Re: SX-M Thrust Washer?

Since VP props are available in the popular pitches in 3 and 4 blade, it begs the question; why put a Merc prop on there that isn't designed for a VP SX drive? The hubs/shafts are not the same length; as you are finding out.

I can assure you that the Merc Rev4 is no better than the VP 4 blade prop that fits.

Re: SX-M Thrust Washer?

For what its worth the hub kit i used is made by Michigan Wheel. I called the manufacturer and they told me if the old spline washer doesn't work then leave it out. It is not neccessary, and to just tighten down the nut and install the cotter pin.
