I have an SX outdrive which has seen better days, it's an SX-M 1.60 but I have the opportunity to buy a complete refurb outdrive which is a SX-M 1.51. I really only need the bottom leg but they wont split the unit.
I know replacing the lower leg will give me a running ratio of 1.51 which seems pretty close to 1.60 but it's obviously different for a reason!
I'm looking to know what practical effect would changing the ratio have on the boat. Mine is a 5.7GL engine and I know the 1.51 was matched with 5.8 FL & FI engine models.
Is it a case of by the refurn unit and put the guts of my drive into it, or will I get away with a straight swop?
As ever I bow to your greater knowledge
