SX outdrive

just had my outdrive re-sealed and have a concern... the drive is currently still off the boat as Just also finished painting it. When toggle the gear lever and turn the input shaft, the prop shaft will spin but if I hold it, it will stop like the gears aren’t engaged all the way or something. Can someone confirm that if I spin the input shaft, that prop shaft should spin and have resistance? Hope I’m being clear enough.

Sorry as far as I know it’s standard rh rotation

I will assume you mean when viewed facing the front of the engine, it is rotating Clockwise. Viewed from the rear of the engine it will appear to run Counter-Clockwise. So if standing in front of the outdrive facing it, the input shaft needs to be rotated clockwise.
