I traded the motor pad on my SS for a plate of AL, mainly to cover up non BIA pattern bolt holes from a Chrysler dorm fridge and to hide some minor pitting caused by the wood pad.

I'm looking for a trolling motor, I have found a couple that are in my price range. My question is will an 8hp be big enough, and will short shaft work or so I need to find long shaft.

I also found a hold in the front of the boat, where it looks like the PO hit a rock or something, I will take some pics tomorrow, but I need some help with fixing it. I ordered gulvit and 3m 5200 today and should be here weds. Have people used advantac plywood for there decks?

A short shaft would not be my choice, there's probably a good reason why so many are for sale as opposed to LS models.

15 HP might be a bit too much and not let you slow down enough, well that is if you're planning on trolling with the boat.

9.9's are most popular and a LS 9.9 would have the most resale value. I know they cost more too especially in a 4 stroke.

Hey waterman what is the best epoxy or resin to use to seal the deck? I think I'm going to,use advantac plywood, the stuff is tough and water resistant. I did a deck for a utility trailer years ago with it and it is still going strong( snow, rain, salt, and sun).

I don't know about the wood you're thinking of, I looked and this caught my eye right off

AdvanTech panels are not recommended for exterior siding or other applications that are permanently exposed to the weather. Can be stained, varnished or painted with oil or epoxy based paints or oil based primer and latex paint. Water seal is not recommended.

Plywood exterior grade and marine plywood still need sealing or they will go bad so sealing it and taking care of the boat is a good idea. Looks like you can use epoxy paints. I don't know about epoxy resin though?

I use Helmsman Spar in clear gloss to seal my decking and wood work in my boats so I'm not the guy to ask about resin. I know most the guys like to use the US Composite stuff in the pump bottles.

Well I finally got some time today to work on the boat. Three kids (10,6, and 1) keep me pretty busy. I have been sick all last week so finding time and energy has been tough.

Anyways I got a good strart demoing today and realize I am going to do way more then just replace the floor. I have some ideas to make the splash guard smaller and put a bench seat in. I need to keep demoing and get to the transom to replace that. It is soft on the bottom and I don't want to replace it in a year or two. Get it done now. . I figure if I have the engine off and it gutted, it's the perfect time to paint so I am going to get that done this year as well.

I got a lot of ss screws and things I can reuse.

I am thinking about adding an aluminum plate on the gunnels to cover all the holes and to add strength where I want to attach my downriggers.

The keel plate looks to me like it needs some serious work done on it. The peeled gouges need sanded down and then filled with Marine Tex or JB. There are rivet heads that are suffering from corrosion too and falling apart, I had 100's of them that I had to replace on my SS. Once you have it all cleaned up and repaired then I would just use gluvit on the inside and not try to add 5200 to the mix, too much of a good thing is not a good thing sometimes.

The picture makes the rivets look bad, it's just the paint is chipping away. I grabbed some Jb weld and started the process today. I will post pics next time I'm out there. The boat is at my parents house right now because I built on a hill and the only flat area is in the field below or in my driveway.
