Re: Synthetic v. Regular Oil
I've been a fan of JohnRude oils for as long as I can remember...I have used many brands of TC-W3 with good success, only 1 of those has cause an issue, and it was not engine wear, it was excess residual running down and out the mid-section after each use. I'm not mentioning the brand, because I could see no engine damage of quality of engine operation change. A couple of years ago, I started using JohnRude XD-25 (10% syn), Very clean running, no residual trail down the mid section...then I tried the JohnRude FichtRam..Really liked this..(now called XD-50)
and stuck with it for several hundred hours in 2 engines. I know run Amsoil HPI in my pre-mix 200 Rude...very clean, no problems, and most cost-effective to use than the XD-50 even.
Some have seen an RPM rise at top-end with this, I didn't...BUT, when I added the Amsoil lower unit lube, I did see an increase in top RPM.
This particular Lube is not TC-W3 certified, but I do think the company's thoughts on this are that it is so superior to conventional oils, the rating isn't needed in their minds.
The funny part of the lack of TC-W3 rating, is I know "1" of the major outboard manufacturers uses HPI in their own bottle for their top-of-the-line oil...it says TC-W3. So whether it may be public or not, Amsoil HPI has been tested for TC-W3 certification in that case, if the info I have is accurate.
