system check gauge functions on a 4 stroke?

I didn't get a manual with 99 Johnson 70hp 4 stroke. The boat I pulled it off of had only the trim gauge hooked up and no working tach. I'm looking at picking up a system check tach for this motor but descriptions on the BRP website are pretty short but they do state it works with "all 96+ engines". A couple of websites I've looked at show "all 96+ 2 stroke" SO will the system check tach work with a 4 stroke Johnson? do all the lights function or possible have a different use on the 4 stroke like the "no oil" light?

Lee, The System Check Tach uses an 8 pin connector. Does your motor have such a wiring harness?

The functions on my 2 cycle Johnson are: Motor overheat, Low oil level in the injection resevoir, fuel restriction and no oil in the vro pump. Obviously oveheat and fuel restriction functions apply to your motor. It is possible that one of the oil alarms could be adapted to monitor your oil pressure. I am not sure about the fourth function however.

Yes id do have the 8 pin plug but the previous owner had a 97' 70 2 stroke on the boat which he traded for the 99' 4 stroke where I'm sure he just reused the controls and such.

Just looked again. The 8 pin plug was plugged into a 4"x4" black box under the dash of the boat I removed it from so it must work with system check.
