t plate cut out questions.

as most of you know....im kinda ....well.....building-rebuilding a boat.

its allmost time to cut the transom hole for the outdrive.....


im going to test the boat with a 4.3 alpha one gen2 drive......
(that will be the cut out)

HOWEVER....

in the near future.......(next season start) after i see that the hull is working properly and reacting the way it should......

ill be going to a volvo type drive......dont even know what one yet.

my question is........

first i know the holes are different and different sizes......but what really worries me....what is the difference in height between the anti cav plates between the two drives??????

i dont want excess drag......if more of the bigger volvo....(possibly a dual prop).....sticks lower in the water.....or even a single prop.....sticks lower than the alpha... ...... i really dont want to rebuild another transom after the water tryals

IF and that's a big if, you find a Volvo SX/DP-S drive, the cutout will be EXACTLY the same as the Alpha. Along with hole location.

i know thats a big IF....ive been looking for 6 or 7 months....

any difference between the drive height..(depth in the water) and anti cave plate between the two?

As Merc have, by far, the larger market share, the other manufacturers have had to adopt to the merc 'standard' if they wanted any chance of eating away at it. As Don said, the Volvo has exactly the same cutout on their later models. I believe the now obsolete (thank you GOD!) OMC Cobras were also the same....

......ok....so that means that the height or depth is the same....as the different manufacturers had to keep it all uniform.......

Set it up with the right height for the Merc and the Volvo will be the right height too....
