Hello everyone at I Boats.

Hope every one has had a great summer out on the water I know I have.

Here?s my question. I had my boat out the yesterday and was having a issue with the engine temp. While the engine was at 3200 3600RPM the temp stayed about 175 degrees Fahrenheit + or - a few. Once I open it up to any thing higher then 4000 RPM engine temp runs 200 degrees. But once I drop back down to around 3200 RPM temp comes back down to 175 degrees. A little background info the water pump was worked on last year. Not sure if the impeller was replaced. The engine is brand spanking new less the 20 hours it was a complete drop in and it ran fine all summer till this past week Merc 5.0L alpha 1 gen 2

hammerhead....
unfortunately you really have to go through the entire cooling system. most people start at the raw water pump and work there way up.

Hammerhead, If you boat in salt water, the barnacles will get up inside the water intakes and restrict water flow to the impeller. I remove the intake grates, use a screwdriver to clean out the water intakes, and then use a larger flat screwdriver to clean out the passage that goes to the impeller.

Ayuh,........ Well over 12,000 now,............. Why,..??..??......

Not sure if the impeller was replaced.

Ayuh,.......

When a Boat has Overheating Issues,.........

That's the Absolute 1st place to Look,....... Then work Downstream from there...........

Many times an Impeller is changed for No Reason,.....
The Pump Body itself should be Closely Inspected for any Scouring, or Scoring, Or Any Blemish's in the working surfaces......
