Your fill plug is the upper large sloted screw. You may have a lower screw for drain.

If not, Then take hyd.line/s lose from pump and drain.

Replace plug or lines, and refill, cycle up and down at least 6 times and top off fluid.

Drain again, Refill and cycle again at least 6 times and keep toping off until all air is removed from system.

Ok now....you knew you were gona hear it from somebody. Get an OMC service manual. Its motor specfic for that year only...... Makes life much eaiser.

Good Luck!

Just FYI: some (all? many?) of the older factory service manuals cover multiple years and models of engines - similar to the aftermarket books such as Seloc and Clymer. They can be quite thick and expensive. This makes them more confusing than you might be aware of. I have factory manuals as well as Seloc for both my '74 Merc kicker and my '82 Johnson V6. All of my manuals (Seloc and factory) cover multiple years and models. The factory manuals are better than the Seloc, although I've found some specific parts of the Seloc to be easier to follow. If I were to have one, I'd chose factory, but it's nice to have both. I've even triple'd my resources by checking out a Clymer at the library - again, there are certain parts that might be easier for an amateur to follow in the aftermarket books.
