T9.9 Remote 4 stroke installation

I'm putting a T9.9 (1994 model) on my boat, and will be setting it up to steer from the center console.

I am going to have a toggle switch (DPDT) that will take 12V+ from the battery to the starter solenoid, and the other position will be a Grd. to kill the motor.

Do I just splice into the white wire on the motor that goes to the CDI box? This will not short out or damage the CDI, right?
