I'm having problems with my tach working and not working. Most of the time the tach does not work. It's almost like a loose wire. I have checked everything and can't find a reason for it not to work.

If anyone has an Idea I'm ready to try it.

Thanks,John

Monitor your charging voltage. Your rectifier may be breaking down.

WD-40 on all the connections.Loosen all the screws and connectors, spray with WD or silicone.Re-tighten.This includes ALL grounds.J

I pulled the boat out and hooked the water to it. I checked the voltage at idle (13.7 I think). I checked it at about (my tach don't work) 1500 to 2000 and the voltage was 14.50 to 14.53.

What should I look for?

Thanks,John

Thanks Jerry, It started raining on me and had to put the boat back in the garage. I will start working on all connections Tomorrow. I just loosen everything and spray the WD-40 and then retighten all connections but make sure there is good unpainted surface under each connection?

Thanks,John

Well,I reworked all connections, grounds and all. I checked the ignition switch, all connections were butt spliced and loose. Could not rework the connections because the wires were cut right up to the switch, good move PO. I replaced the switch and soldered all connections. Hooked up the water and started the engine the tach was the same as before started working then stopped, started working then stopped.

I have checked the voltage regulator at Idle 13.5,1500 to 2000 rpm 14.3. I reworked all connections under the cowl. I installed a new key switch because it was a mess with all the butt splices.

Is there a way I can check the tach itself without getting a new one? Can I bypass the voltage regulator to see if the tach will work?
