I have a 1995 Merc mariner 40 hp 2 stroke. My tach was acting stupid, bouncing around, showing over reving readings and so on. Then last week when I was out, I had charging issues. The reading in this fourm I have done says it can be the rectifier. Other stuff I have come across says it can be the voltige regulator with the 5 wires comming out of it. I did notice some brown stuff that looked like somthing burt under the protective plastic it is sealed in.
Does anyone know where I should start. Can either one of these be tested.
