I installed the "new" tach started it up and it still didn'work is there any way I can tell if its the tach or the wiring

Is your system charging? If your rectifier/regulator is bad, you will have no Tach reading. TAke a reading with the motor NOT running and see what voltage you get, Then start it up and you should see a rise in voltage. Does the tach "Zero" when you turn the key to on? Let us know the results...

the voltage readings are 12.24 when not running and about 18 running (reading is eradic but 18 is what I see. I have two tachs one is zero key on or off the other zeros when key on but neither works
