I am straightening out the mess the boat maker and the engine installer left under the console and installing a tach. The motor is a 2007 Merc 50 elpto, does anyone know the part number of the extension harness that plugs into the four pin moulded nylon that plugs into the Merc harness and connects to the tach? Thanks!

Stand on your head and get the model number of the controll set (bottom). Look up the parts list for it and you'll find the harness.

hope it helps

Nope that dosn't work, its a top mount Merc control and the connector is stubbed of the wireing harness going to the ignition switch. I tried at a "dealer", but their parts guy dosn't know anything other than whats on his computer.

Yep, it's what they had on the line at the time the boat was built. You can just whack it off and use bullet connectors if you want. Well.... that's if the color codes match.. You should still be able to trace it back and figure it out. I had the same problem when I re-wired my dash.

Alternatively, you can go to a Electronics supply store and get a new connector set to make a new harness.

The harness wasn't installed at the manufacturer. The guy that bought it new, thought he was being smart and bought the boat one place and the motor somewhere else and left me a headache. I have to think its a regular Mercury harness, at least all the colors match up and it LOOKS like other Merc harnesses.

Boats are rigged to ABYC wiring standards (color codes) not engine standards. Most boats are partially pre rigged for the engines that the manufacturer prefers. Brunswick boats are all pre-rigged for Mercs because Brunswick owns Merc. Skeeters and Tahoes are all pre rigged Yamaha because Yamaha owns them.. etc....
