Not sure if this question goes here or in the Yamaha outboard forum, but here goes...
I have a '99 Sylvan 1600 Expedition with a 50hp 4 stroke Yamaha motor. The boat didn't come with a tach, so I'm looking to add one. The manual for the motor shows a digital tach, but I'd rather not spend that much - analog is good enough.
Question is, what wire connects to the send post on the tach? Everything I've read says the tach send wire should be gray. After tracing all the wiring down, I've identified everything under the dash, I see the wires for power, ground, and instrument lights, with spares all ready for another gauge. The only wire left over coming from the motor is green.
Could the green wire be for the tach? Is there a way to test to find out?
Thanks in advance,
