I had the same problem with my motor. Turned out to be the main ground wire and bolt on the block. I'm not saying that?s the problem but check it because it can be dangerous. Also sometimes the tach wire is spliced in with another wire, after a while the connector can go bad, that also happened to me. These things are just general things to check, it would help to have the model number.

Problem usually happens when the tachometer voltage lead is mistakenly attached to the PTT switch voltage lead.

However if the tachometer has functioned normally in the past.... and you haven't changed/added anything.... check to make sure the tachometer ground is as it should be.

No offense intended but putting a period at the end of your sentences would make your message easier for us to understand. Sort of hard to figure where one stops and the next one begins.

Re: tach cutting out or bouncing when i hit trim

Sorry, How do I go about trying to find out if this is the case with my tach? I had my freind change my trim motor in may but it turned out not to be the motor it was a broken wire which he repaired, so then I put the old motor back in and can't really recall if I had this problem before this happened.Where do I start to check for this not to mechanically adept but will try my best to find it what do I need or use????

Your PM has been answered. Bottom line, keeping it simple, was to disconnect th tach, then wire it back up properly.
