Took my boat to the lake a few days ago and the tach quit working. Where should I start first? When I ran down the lake it was showing 6000 rpm's and that is not right it has always run 5600 rpm's. I looked down again and it was not working.Any ideas??<br />It is a 1989 Evinrude XP150. Thanks for any help.

Re: tach died

IS the charging system OK? The tach signal comes off the regulator, at least it does on my '86 looper, I know I had the same thing and the regulator had blown.

Re: tach died

Mark is correct xp...a failed tach can mean the charging system has gone south. Do you have a volt meter in your rig? If so, what is it telling you?

Re: tach died

I do not have a volt meter on the boat but I think I can put a meter on the battery and if it is reading about 14 volts with motor running. It should be charging ok.Is this correct??

Hello XP,<br /><br />If you find an answer to your problem please let me know, because I have a 1985 XP 150 and my tach stopped working. I even replaced the tach with new tach and it does not work either. I have a volt meter and it reads 14 volts with the engine running. <sigh>

Re: tach died

I have the same problem on my 2001 Glastron 205 GX. took it out yestersday and the tack is not working. I also would like to know how to trouble shoot the problems also. If its not a charging problem where do we start next on trouble shooting the problem.

Thanks,Ken
