Hi I have asked this before and forgot. I think the answer was to connect it to any yellow wire at the terminal strip? Isn't there a wire that runs in the harness to the key switch, or to the throttle. I couldn't find a ref. in the wire diagram for that year motor.
steve

The tach wire is the gray wire. There should be a three hole receptical on the control for the tach plug.

c/6
Hooty

Is it best to use the connections on the controls or go straight to the motor? How could I obtain a plug to interface with the controls?

I know Teleflex makes a cable that goes from the tach to the receptical in the control and I'd bet OMC does too but you could wire it all the way back to the terminal strip. If you do, do the next guy a favor and run a gray wire. ;)

c/6
Hooty

Might already have the gray wire up under the console. Take a peek...
