Tach installation?

Can you splice the wires that are in the tach adaptor in the control switch directly to the tach wires?

Yes you can hook them direct but if you have a modern alt. driven tach you must first remove the tach lead from the switch box and hook it to a yellow wire at the rectifier

Is this what I need to do with the brown wire and this is for a modern tach, that if today I went to Bass pro shop or a marina and they sold me a tach this is what I needed to do for it to work prorperly? please look at the diagram.
