Tach not working

I have a 1987 V4 90HP Evinrude and cannot seem to get the tach working. I have the ign terminal supplied from the ignition, the grd has the blk ground wire to the negative bus, and the gray wire runs to terminal 3 (3rd from the top) on the terminal strip on the motor. I checked continuity from terminal 3 there, to the tach itself, and it's okay (continuity checks good). I have the selector on the tach set to 6P.

Any ideas what I can do?

thanks

Re: Tach not working

Either a bad tach or a charging system prob on the mtr.

Re: Tach not working

Is the charging system charging?

I had the rectifier replaced when my tach wasn't working and the system wouldn't charge. Solved both problems.

Re: Tach not working

I'm going to replace the regulator/rectifier. The only other symptom (other than tach not working at all) is a "High Voltage" alarm on my VHF radio. Hopefully, the 1990 90HP regulator/rectifier I found will work on my 1987 V4.
