Tach Problem

So with my key in the ignition in the on position and the motor NOT running my tachometer reads 1100 RPM's. I assumed it was a ground problem. Looked and looked and tried some different rewiring still the exact same. Any ideas what else it could be if it isn't a ground? Oh, almost left out the most important part, its a 1984 Chrysler 90hp, 908V4B.

Re: Tach Problem

Does the needle ever go to zero if you disconnect wires?

What does it read when running?

Re: Tach Problem

It does go back to zero when the ignition is in the off position. When the motor starts it is right back to 1100 RPMS. I have been playing with it a little more today and I am just clueless on this one.

Re: Tach Problem

It may be a problem with the needle movement in the tach itself. 1100 at idle in neutral is a normal reading. Is this the actual RPM of the engine, have you checked it with an inductive tach?

If you don't have one, you can get an inductive tach off of ebay for @10 to 15 bucks.
