Hello, I have an Evinrude 1970 60HP electric shift, model 60073.
I purchased a used tach that I'd like to attach to my motor. I don't have a manual for this motor yet so this is why I'm here asking.......... On the back there is the pulse dial, it is set to 6, should I leave that where it is?? On the bottom there are 3 connectors.{threadded studs} The first {going from left to right looking at the back} has a "PUL" next to it. Where do I connect it to? The center one says "GND" and the 3rd says "12V" Ok, I can do those two! Then there is one at the top which doesn't say anything. Could this be for the light? Also theres a sticker on the side that reads "174630 For use on 5,6 pul/rev alternator equipped outboards and 6 pul/rev OMC sea drive engines....Can I use this tach with my motor??? I do not know what make this is, the only marking on it is a trapazoid on the back with an M inside of that and those are inside of a circle.
Wow! A lot of writting for such simple questions... lol

Re: Tach pulse & hookup

the little symbol of back with "M" in it is the old OMC logo, you'll find it on alot of the parts the make up the motor. the GND is obvious, 12V is obvious also. the PUL is for wiring the tach. You'll need to find out how many poles your stator has. You can pull flywheel to find out, count the number of little of poles, that's what determines what the tach is set to. there's a couple posts flying around concerning tach pulses look it up there's a photo showing how to count the poles on the stator. if it don't have a 5 or 6 pulse alternator then that tach won't work right. Alot of writing here also for something simple too :) .............

Thanks mikeyzx2 I don't think I'll be pulling the flywheel though. No sence in loosening up something and run the risk of fouling something up. {thats my luck} I can wait till I get a manual, but what about the wire that is unmarked? :D
