Tach question: 2003 5.0Gxi MPI

I'm about to install a Floscan 7000 on the Chaparral Sig 240. It looks like I can replace the existing tach with the Floscan 7K, and use the wires from the original tach as inputs to the Floscan. If I were to mount the Floscan elsewhere, could I merely parallel the tach wires so that both the dash instrument and the Floscan would be driven from the same source? Or would this cause excessive loading of the tach signal circuit?

Typically you can parallel tach input signals. The input circuit on the tach is very high impedance and doesn't draw very much current at all.

What did the manufacturer's installation instructions direct the installer to do?

The manufacturer's directions are very general. They provide typical installation details, and do not provide specific information such as the load impedance that the Floscan 7000 instrument presents to the tach driver circuit, or whether or not a person could parallel the two instruments.

My current thinking is to just replace the tach/hour meter with the Floscan 7000. It looks like it will fit the same hole cutout.

The biggest issue for me is the fuel system components. I plan to spend a little extra time thinking that through before I cut in the sensor plumbing. I would sure like to see how others have done this ... especially on a Signature 240! I don't know if any one else has done this , though. Floscan tech support says they don't have any 'specific' installation pix or details for this boat. (I already asked them!)

I don't know what you have in mind, but you do not hook up the FloScan anywhere in the engines fuel supply. It MUST be hooked up BEFORE, again BEFORE the point on the engine where the fuel tank is hooked.
Do not put it after the engine mounted fuel filter, it MUST be before it.
What is your full engine model number?
2003 means little since Volvo doesn't list anything by year.

I was aware that the Floscan senor with its Ezy Flo pre-filter is to be installed between the fuel tank and before any engine components. The installation manual is pretty clear on that.

Just how to locate it in a place that is physically secure, low enough to provide the outlet's uphill run for the 1" to 2" vertical rise over a 12" run as detailed in the diagram in the manual is what I need to figure out. I want to be sure it is protected against accidental breakage when I'm working in that confined area. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated. I've read the manual several times now. About all that I need is for the Ezy flow filter (238 micron) to arrive, and I'll be ready to begin this installation.
