tach question

im looking to buy a tachometer for my boat but for obviously reasons i need to be clear on how many poles my motor has.thought i read on here to look under flywheel and count the spools of wire to know.i count 8 does that sound correct.thank you,

most all omc's are 12 pole with the execption of older twin cylinders which are 10 pole (like my 79' 55hp)
