Re: Tach question

Automotive tachs usually have a 4/6/8 cylinder selector switch. You need to set this correctly for the tach to interpret ignition pulse into rpm.
On a boat tach settings are for the number of poles, which varies from engine to engine.
So the answer is yes if you can figure out how to set it up correctly.
This Faria manual might help. http://faria-instruments.com/site_manuals/IS0012u.pdf
I think you'll find that if your motor is not 4, 6 or 8 poles then it won't work properly.

Re: Tach question

Depends upon the design of the tach and how it picks up it's information. Additionally it depends on whether or not you have a 2 or 4 stroke engine when attempting to choose a particular tach. Since 2 strokes fire every revolution and some (especially the older distributor engines) 4 strokes fire on alternate revolutions, this could allow you to use an auto tach set up for 4 cyl automotive engines on a 2 cyl, 2 stroke OB.
