Tach Settings

I have a tach that I bought on clearance, open box. So I don't know who the manufacturer is. But there is a +, -, and a sender terminal on the back of the tach. There is also a + and - for the light. In the center is a dial that can be set on 1, 2, 3, or 4. (I have it set on 4)<br /><br />The engine I am running is a late 80s 88 hp Evinrude SPL. I am wondering if anyone would be able to tell me, with the little amount of info I have provided, if this tach is compatible with my engine, and what that dial setting needs to be on.<br /><br />Thanks

That almost sounds like an old Airguide or Aquameter. Maybe a Faria of some kind?? At any rate, and we've been following the other post, I would take the boat to a dealer or borrow a dealers shop tach and compare the two at wot. Once you get the tach issue put to bed you can proceed with testing props.<br /><br />Personaly I rely strictly on the OE tachs or Gafferig. Seen too much odd stuff with some others.<br /><br />Good luck!

Too many variables on that tach. May not even be for marine applications, more info needed. For most marine tachs with 1-4 switches, the 6p position is #4. The good thing is that connecting the tach and checking it out is not going to hurt anything.

Another Tach that you can verify with would be good. Then go from there.
