I have a 1975 85 Johnson, no tachometer. What options do I have to install a tach on the cheap, and how would I go about installing?

Thanks as always!

Re: tach solutions on the cheap

If your motor uses a 6-pulse Tachometer, I just picked one up from a company that sells surplus boating supplies by the name of Great Lakes Skipper (http://www.greatlakesskipper.com/) for under $30 shipped. I haven't hooked it up yet, but at that price I was willing to roll the dice. The only one they have at that price is a 6-pulse tachometer, and looking at the tach it seems that it had the little dial in the back to change the pulse settings, but it has been removed.
This company also sells on e-bay, so you may do a search there and see what else they have.

Thanks for the links folks!

Not wanting to get into any wiring or custom settings issues that I've seen others get into when trying to set up a standard tach they bought off the internet, I like the TinyTach idea. http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/gasoline.php

I have sent them an email as they say you're supposed to contact them if you have a "multi-cylinder motor". Mine's a V4. I'll follow up here with whatever info they give me.

Cheers - and for those here in the USA: Happy Independence Day!

:)
