Hello,

I would like to hook up my dwell/tach to my 1999 3.0 to verify RPM.

This type of coil isn't familiar to me, as the test meter needs to attach to negative side of coil, and battery...

Can anyone advise me how to do this properly?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Tach verification help

Does this look like your setup?

If so...the gray wire at Note 2, is where you plug your shop tach into.

Yep that's it.

Will any tach work? Or is there a specific shop tach for tweaking? Roes the grey wire go to the - side of coil?

Thanks!

Can't speak for your tach...but my automotive shop tach red lead plugs into the (note 2) gray wire, and the black is grounded to the engine. The gray wire terminates with a female plug, and I made a short wire with a male connector.

The gray lead goes to the negative side of the coil....

Seeing as my shop tach is probably over 30 years old, any tach should work!

P.S. I upgraded to the Matco inductive digital tach/timing light, so that I could set both the idle rpm's, and the timing, with one tool!
