tach wiring question...warning buzzer...

Hey guys, I bought a used tach on ebay that my wiring harness plugged directly into. I like it that way but...my outboard does not have vro. so which wires would I have to cut to disable the low oil and no oil alarms? I know i'd like to keep the overheat and check engine alarms if possible. The primary wires on the 8 pin plug are on the top row. 3 bottom row wires are light brown with blue, black and red stripes. last one is tan with a blue stripe. I will disconnect all of the bottom row wires if necessary. It would be nice to keep the others intact. Thanks again, you guys have been great.

The tachometer plugs can be plugged into the standard control via a three pronged plug on the standard control. It receives the pulse from a gray wire received through the main harness. It can also be wired to receive ground and positive feeds from the ignition switch, if the three wire plug is absent or otherwise engaged. ​

It has little to do with the other wires in the main harness and nothing to do with the warning horn VRO signals and overheat temperature warning.-?

Anyway, it sounds like you bought a system check tach. Here is Rickb1boats reply to another who had one:

#1 is Purple and will go to switched 12 Volts(Ignition)
#2 is black and will go to ground
#3 Is gray and will go to the gray wire (Tach. Signal)

Make sure to tape the other ones up so they do not touch if you use a harness...

i did buy the faria systems check type tach, it's 4" in dia. has a 8 pin molex type plug. you might refer to them as amphenol. it appears the top row of pins are the standard tach wires. the lower tier has the system check wiring. I'm thinking they would line up to the specific alarm.

All of the system check sensors ground their leads when they detect trouble. If you do not have the sensors plugged into the harness, and the wires do not touch the block, the alarms shouldn't be active. You will get the initial "light check" when you first turn on the key.

I do get the vro and low level alarms when powered up and using the 8 pin harness. It is an intermittent beep with both lights burning. So I believe I have at least part of the warning system set up and useable on my motor and remote. Maybe the wires are grounded while not in use. I will check on thurs morning. Working 12 hr days till then. in any case, all i need is the tach, so i think i'll just pull those wires from the quick disconnect. Thanks for all the heads up guys. (Yes I have the proper tool to pull the wires out of these style plugs if anyone is concerned, I would easily be able to return them to seervice.)
