Does a 1972 V4 100HP electric shift Evinrude follow the basic tachometer installation principles of other OMC/Johnny/Rude motors - six pulses, with signal from the output of the regulator?

I'm familiar with basic tachometer installation, signal, battery and ground wires, and setting the number of pulses that the regulator puts out for a given motor

The 1968-1972 are kind of unique in that the stator/regulator run completely indepedepent of the ignition system, so I wasn't sure if the number of pulses, or the wiring hookup is done any differently. I didn't want to fry anything, and wasn't sure if for example signal on these motors comes from the sensor wires and not the output of the regulator.

Please advise.
