I have an old (appox. 1975) merccontol with a setup for a tachometer which has 3 wire plug in.

The 3 wires are black, brown, white.

I am guessing that the black is a ground and the brown would be the signal to opperate the tachometer and the white would be a power line to work the light on the tachometer.

Am I a good guesser or wrong again.

Thanks

Re: Tachometer hookup

You have guessed correctly. Now you need to check one item. Pull the wrap aroung cowling and see if there is a brown wire on the rectifier, connected to one of the yellow wires. If not, it may be connected to the switchbox. The switchbox was used to drive the old-style Tachs. If you have a newer one or a universal tach, you need to have the brown wire connected to the rectifier yellow wire.
