I bought the Teleflex Sportsman Tach from iBoats to install on my '65 33 hp 'Rude. It said the motor just needed an alternator. Now I am not quite sure this product will work on my boat. I boat has what is refered to in the manual as a "generator" but it doesn't say alternator. When I was trying to hook it up with my dad he informed me they are different. So first, did I get the wrong product? If so what product do I need? If not, where do I hook up the Send wire as I don't see the wire coloring referred to in the install manual.

Thanks,
Patrick

The 33 had neither an alternator nor generator as standard equipment. A DC generator is an optional accessory that can be fitted. AC Alternators sync with engine rpm, DC generators do not. The original tach for a 33 was driven by a wire going to one set of the breaker points in the magneto. You need to get back with iboats on this.

Okay...thanks that makes much more sense now that I know the difference between the DC generator and the AC alternator. My boat has the optional DC generator option with electric start. Much appreciated.
