Tachometer install

I have a 1988 Celebrity 190V with a broken tachometer. I am trying to replace it but the wires that were connected to the original are not standard colors. There is a white, yellow and orange wires. After a little more looking, every gauge has the same color wires attached to it. I plan on eventually replacing all of the gauges but need to get this figured out first. Any idea what color is for power, ground and tach lead? Or, how can I test them to find out. Admittedly I'm not the best with electrical but I get by. Thanks!

You don't need to test anything. All you need to do is LOOK. Every gauge requires +12 volts and ground. Check any other gauge and whatever color wire is on the "I" (ignitiion) terminal is what goes to the "I" (ignitiion/+12 volts) on the tach. Same for the ground. The wire that's left goes to the "S" (send) terminal on the tach. If the tach has an internal light then the same process applies.

By using a test light, you can easily determine the placement. Hooking the test light clip to a 12v+ power source, verify the light works by touching a ground. Then, with the key ON, touch the three wires and determine which one lights. Thats the GROUND.

Of the other 2 wires, you have to determine which is the tach signal and if the other is 12v+ or a wire for the tach light. Look at the other gauges and see if one of the leads feeds a lamp (bulb). The remaining wire will be your tach feed.
