I have a 2003 Merc Saltwater series 150hp. I was running the lake the other day and the tach seemed to be reading 1000rpm over normal. The engine sounded fine and was runing great. After about 20 minutes, the tach was reading normal agian. Just as I was satisfied that the whole thing was my imagination, The tach stopped working completely? I tried looking in my engine manuel for some trouble shooting help but I couldn't find anything. Is thier a book I can buy? Anyone have any ideas where to start??

Thanks

Re: Tachometer Problems

I know that the tach on the earlier 150s was connected to the rectifier, if it starts to fail, or fails, your tach can be effected. Do you know for sure that the starting battery is being charged properly, you might check and see if it is over 12 volts after running that last time. If you have a manual, (You should have one), the testing procedures are in there for the rectifier.
