Tachometer question ???

1982 Mercruiser 350 v8 small block . All factory equipment . What I am wondering is where does the tachometer signal originate from . What I have going on is that sometimes at higher rpm around 4-4200 the tach will just jump to completely peg to WOT when the engine is not changing rpm at all .

Ayuh,.... Odds are, on the back of the gauge is a switch,...

Wiggle it through it's settin's, 'n back to the proper settin',.... 'n try it....

Ya might get a few more laps outa it....

You might also try removing the connectors in the back, cleaning them really well along with the terminals and then using liquid tape on them to keep them from corroding and losening up from vibration.
