Tachometer recommendation

1976 Mercury 850

The boat came without a tach, and one was never installed. No cutout in the dash, either.

Top RPM range for this engine is less than 4800-5500 RPM (fairly sure this is correct).

Looking for a recommendation on a reasonably priced tach that works with this engine.

All input is appreciated.

Ya got 12 poles on the stator. Most tachs have a rotary switch to match the # of poles on the motor.

No! The setting is for the number of pulses which is determined by the number of poles. A 12 pole stator delivers 6 pulses. You set the tachometer at #6 for a 12 pole stator. Besides - there is no #12 setting.

It's still matching the poles. 6 is correct setting for a 12 pole stator. I didn't give the exact setting.
