My '79 Glassmaster with '74 Merc 1150 motor has a tachometer in the instrument panel. The wiring behind the panel is an amazing mess. The only things that work are the light and bilge switches. Although is it hard to trace all the wires, because it seems that someone replaced the harness and left most of the trash behind, it appears that the hot wire comes into a small junction box that feeds the working switches.
I'd like to hook up the tach. Should I remove it from the panel and hook it up to my car to make sure it works or should I assume that it will work if I connect it to the outboard? How does it connect to the mercury 1150.
