Good afternoon to all,I hava a35hp johnson sea horse in which id like to install a tach.I hve the original OMC control box single lever F.N.R with the warm up lever, under that theres the ignition switch followed by a dial which allows me 2 increase or decrease pressure in d lever, just under that there is a rubber booty about 1/2 inch long, cylindrical in appearance with max 5 amp written on it.When iremove this booty it has 3 pins, cld anybody tell me what these pins are for, whether its for tacho or for what.......CHEERS.

As mentioned, any of the tachs sold on Iboats - or any other marine tach seller - will do fine.

What do you mean by "require a tacho that is pretty accurate"? Do you require more than normal accuracy? Just curious - why? Maybe you need a digital tach because the analog dial types really are hard to read in anything but 100 rpm increments - maybe you can determine if one is betwen (i.e. in ~50 rpm increments), but really the gauge is not intended for accuracy better than 100 rpms because that's what the marks are. But they're all the same in that respect, at least the ones I'm familiar with. My purposes have never been more critical than knowing my approximate WOT rpms and I do't care if it's 5900 or 5800 - just that it's closer to 6000 than 55. Maybe I'm just sloppy.

Re: tachometer

thanks for reply.Well ive blown everything out of the water by purchasing a G.P.S UNIT WHICH IN DOUGHT IS WAY MORE ACCURATE than any tach ive ever seen or heard of.Reason for stating this is im tying to acheive the most accurate possible tuning for what i hve got .G.P.S also enables accurate speedometer readings which again is a good thing..........CHEERS.....:D

Hi -which GPS do you have that measures rpm? Do you have a link? Does it have a fuel flow meter option too?

Re: tachometer

Bream, are you certain of what you are trying to achieve? The GPS and a tach have nothing in common, other then maybe a display.

How does your GPS pick-up the RPM's on the motor? Very curious.

Re: tachometer

Im very certain in what im acheiving so far.The G.P.S that he has built has a wire running out of the unit which raps around the spark plug wire acting as a antenna,it measures tach + speed, but like i said its still in development alot more tests need to be done before he can even consider marketing the product..........CHEERS.:D
