I am looking into buying a "Tahatsu 8 hp 1993-2 stroke". I have not seen the motor yet. It sounds like it has very low hours and is in very good shape. It sat for 3 years and the guy says it started right up. He stated that it pumped water and idled down nice. It comes with a tank and manual. What are some things I should be wary of and what would a fair price be? I always had Johnson or Evinrude motors so I am nervous about going foreign. I would like to hear what you all may have to say about Tahatsu, negative and positive. Thanks.

Tohatsu also makes the Nissan brand, and is the builder for Mercurys of 30 hp and under. They are as good as any, and better than many. Our support from the Factory is excellent.

The vast majority of OB motors today are non-US, so "fear of foreign" is no longer an issue.

The 8 you describe is a solid, 50:1 mix 2-stroke, of mature technology. They last longer than originally expected.

Thanks Paul for your input. It sure helps hearing that from someone in the business. Much appreciated. Would still like to hear from more out there.
Sincerely,

Dave
