I've recently bought a Tahoe 196 OB and is my first boat that's not a simple fishing boat. The outboard is a Mercury 150 EFI 2 Stroke. What I can't figure out is where to put the 2 stroke oil in at other than the small reservoir on the engine itself. Can anyone point me in the right direction. There is something next to the gas cap that I suspect is it, but I can't figure out the trick to opening it if it is.

Depending on the year and HP, a 2 stroke will either be pre-mix or you'll need to find a reservoir in the boat where the fuel and oil mix going into the outboard.

Welcome aboard.

It may or nay not have a remote oil tank,..

Usually, it it's a remote tank it is in the stern under the splash well,...
Can you see under the splash well through a hatch or anything to see if there is a tank there?

Two stroke outboards do not have a crankcase filled with oil if that's what you are trying to find. The oil tank on the side of the engine should be obvious and some larger (even much smaller engines) had a remote oil tank.Either way, two stroke engines have oil injection systems which obtain oil from that tank. Keep it full or keep your wallet handy.

A 150HP Merc would normally have a small reservoir on the engine and a large oil reservoir in the boat. The large reservoir is pressurized to keep the small one full. The large tank will have two fuel lines going to it, so the motor will have a total of 3 fuel lines running to it.. Follow the fuel lines from the motor and you should find the oil tank, and gasoline tank.

If the motor was converted to premix, it will have a single fuel line.

Well after I found it I felt pretty dumb since I hide it from myself. When I replaced the battery I hadn't tucked it up back where it goes completely. The oil tank was tucked up behind it. Thanks for all the help. I'm sure I'll have other dumb questions in the future since this is my first "big boy" boat.
