I let my little boat sit ready to go all summer and didn't leave the yard with it., Now that the fish are biting I figured a couple of days at the coast would set things right..Problem is the wife who has never gone with me before when I wanted to fish NOW wants to go...It looks like I will lose if she goes and lose if I go alone,,,solution as of now is I am not going anywhere. My wife doesn't even seen to understand the concept of fishing .I wish I been using the boat on the lake this summer now that my friggin coastal fishing trip is screwed. She does like fish though,,when it cost about 20 bucks a plate ...She has already said she wasn't cleaning any fish and the resort looking hotel she was checking on line to pre book the room for sure doesn't even have a hot plate...I may get another dog and let her worry about watching him and not me..The pier web cams I have studied for weeks are now showing heavy action from several of my favorite piers.

If she likes fish at $20 a plate, she will really love your fish after she does the math and figures out they cost $357 a plate.

Try and be patient and understanding with the wife. Maybe she will learn to love fishing. Just don't harden yourself because of what has happened in the past.
Note--take plenty if ice cold beer LOL

I got my wife a Kindal for Christmas last year. She takes it and reads while I fish. Works out for both of us. Barry

My wife is a non-fisherperson, but loves to go with me (when it is not too early or late, or too warm or too cool). She takes a book, couple mags, her crothe, and enjoys the outdoors with things she likes to do. She doesn't have to fish to enjoy fishing, and she usually catches about the same amount as me:facepalm:.

That's' what happens in my boat, I fish while she reads. She just likes being in the boat on a nice sunny day. Fish, don't fish, doesn't matter to me.

The last thing I would do is not go.......

It's been a while since we've gone fishin' together (the Admiral and I). She has an executive staff that sits in proxy. However, back in the day she would grab whatever book that she had intended that I read and take advantage of a captive audience while I fished.

Re: Taking a non fishing wife fishing.

The problem with taking my wife is that if I get out to a good spot and get some time in, and then she has to pee, it's all the way back to the ramp and then off to some place that has real bathrooms. By then I usually just call it and go home, where she says "sorry" about 20 times and I try not to make her feel bad. One reason I shore fish in places with no bathrooms and a tough climb when I want to actually fish. When I want family time I go to places where there are bathrooms and stores etc. and just end up missing bites while chasing my son around. Those trips are for her. My solo trips are for me.

Re: Taking a non fishing wife fishing.

Not going on the trip because your wife wants to go after you've already announced you want to go is absolutely brilliant and she'll never suspect a thing!

I go fishing down at the coast with 2 different groups.

1. First group is my fishin' buddies and we go to fish and we fish seriously. We hits as many fishin' spots as we can... piers, jetties, the catwalk at the inlet and head or charter boats. We fish morning, noon, and night. We usually do goosd and come back with a fine mess of fish.

2. The second group I go with are coworkers from the construction site and this trip is barely about fishin'. All these guys want to do is get drunk and go-go bar hop and act like a bunch of damn teenagers because they 5 hrs. away from home.

When it comes time to get up early and go fishing these guys are just dragging in from the bar, drunk as skunks, and half of them are puking. This is usually a chartered boat trip and when we get to the boat all of these guy go pile up in cabin and bunks to sleep on the way out. When we get to the first spot 1 or 2 of the guys might get up for a few minutes and fish, but they don't last long. It usually ends up I have the boat pretty much to myself while they try to sleep it of and I catch some nice fish (it pays to stay sober and go to bed early). Then when the boat gets back to the dock they want to put all the fish in the pot and divide them up equally, that doesn't happen.

Then it's back to the motel, get cleaned up and go get something to eat. After eating I go back to the motel to sleep after a hard day of fishing and y'all can guess where the other guys go after sleeping on the boat all day... back to the bars.

So if someone doesn't want to go fishing just because their wife wants to go and they've already said they want to go... something doesn't add up.

So if you want to go fishing and you don't want your wife to go, the best thing to do is to take her one time and make sure she is bored, uncomfortable, and miserable... and she'll never want to go again. Then you can do whatever you want when you go "fishing".

Re: Taking a non fishing wife fishing.

I took her to the beach in august knowing I wouldn't even try to fish and tried to do anything or go any place she wanted to. When we got back she complained that she didnt get to do everything what she wanted do? She goes to bed at around 9pm every night and I stay up to 2 or 3 am most of the time. I do NOT want to go for fishing and not be able to go back to the room and sleep if she is there waiting for me to drive her 15 miles to some fish house she prefers. Not even superman can be in 2 places at the same time. Like I said she has no interest in fishing and thinks that it is all about her having another vacation. FOR THIS ONE TRIP I WANT TO BE IN CHARGE OF THE SCHEDULE AND THAT MEANS THERE IS NO FRIKIKIN SCHEDULE.. She can not understand this so I would prefer her to just not be there . I dont want to return home and then hear her complain again because I was on the pier while she wanted to be doing something else. Its only a 2 night trip for GODS sake...gezzzz I cant figure out why she never wants to go fishing with me when I take the boat out...That to me makes no logic. Look at the fishing and hunting shows on tv. You seldom see the men doing manly man things like fishing with their wives 2o feet away do you....There is a reason for this. Note I am too old to chase women and never have since I got married 35 years ago. I like an occasional wine but never get intoxicated either..I dont need a BABYSITTER...I think I need a break from her as much as I need to catch a few fish.

Re: Taking a non fishing wife fishing.

What's so hard about telling her it's going to be a fishin' trip and if she wants to come along she can but all you're going to do is fish?

If she starts complaining, complain right back and tell her you told her how it was going to be before you left... that's the part about making sure they're bored and uncomfortable that I mentioned earlier.

Make the trip all about you this time and do nothing but fish... maybe next time she'll understand what a fishing trip is.

These are shocking phrases - can't be talking about a wife...

Giv her a 5 gallon bucket and lid before you go saying this will be the facility . Did with my wife and she's fine with it

Now that you vented, maybe you should have this conversation with your wife. I would soften it up a little tho first.... Just like the song from Chicago, "Everybody Needs A Little Time Away.........":)

LOL

River: I would say take her out fishing, just understand it will be on her terms. When she is done for the day, don't fret about going in. bait the hooks for her and be patient.
I would bet one of two things happens, either she loves it and you're fishing more than ever, or she hates and the rest of the trip she stays on shore while you go out fishing.
Win - win (hopefully)

whoops, just read your second post about the subject..........disregard what I said above.
I would like to add though, my better half of 23 years learned a long time ago if you want to hang out with me it will probably be in a helmet of some sort. she now rides dirt bikes, atvs, motorcycles and even snowmobiles once in awhile. she also goes hunting and fishing now and then. even learned to shoot a bow. I only mention it because there are some women who will do "manly" things. when she is along the "pace" is different but at least she tries.
