Keep the big boat at the local marina, nice place, good security and up to 2 weeks ago great neighbors......

i keep my shore power cord zip locked to the pedistal, and in front of the pedistal is where my hose resides, top quality hose w/ solid brass nozzle....in the LOCKED dock box are all my cleaners/polish/wax extra fenders...stuff,My friend in the next slip knows theres an extra key behind the plug in at shore power, occasionally he has been on board after severe storms to look & check..great guy.

So here's the deal...was away on vacation last week, came down to the marina to check boat..shore power cord un-ziplocked...hose poorly stored, water left on..coffee stain on top of dock box...hhhmmmm..what's up, noticed i had new neighbors on post side slip..no-one there.....left for home...Came down yesterday...My shore power was running into the new boat...hose 3/4 in water, dangling into stern of new neighbors boat...Dock box OPEN.
I was absolutely blown away at the whole scenario...this time i heard voices aboard there boat ( 42' Mainship w/ Fla. reg)so i knocked and gave a shout..well out pop's Mr Joe Boater..navy blue hat w/scrambled eggs reading "capt" Nautica shirt..cute little boating shorts and a big grin on his puss..I asked why he felt he could use my things without asking..to which he replied "In my old marina we did it all the time..it was accepted as being part of the boating community.....whoooo-weeee.i got a live one here..i (as politely as possible) i said i dont appreciate anyone unplugging my power....and getting into my dock box..the hose he's welcome to....one would've thought i smacked him from the look on his face,he said the power was there as part of the slip fee and it wasn't Mine.....as for the dock box, he saw my other neighbor go into the box for something..saw the key location and assumed he was also allowed to use my things.I said no...your not allowed to use my things..from below his deck i hear "AS*^$@E" from his wife....i had to leave before i lost it..i proceeded to unplug my cord from his boat to where he grabbed my arm to stop me...Oh ,this is getting bad....again as politly as i was able i explained i was/am a former USMC SOG and he might want to desist his present course of action or his dental plan may get activated...it got worse....all shouting and such .no physical.dont wanna go to jail over an idiot,so,I left. This morning i go down to the marina with my wife / daughter and friend..lifted lid on dock box,and the strong smell of urine wafts up at me...my hose is cut...harness for shore power is in the drink..and no boat next door....my only question is:What did i do to upset the boating gods?????
I am waiting for there return.............film at 11:00

first thing i would do is contact the marina and let them know what is going on if that didnt take care of it well lets just say things might not go so well for the new neighbor

You just met the vast minority of boaters out there. Feel lucky if this is your first acquantence with same. Some people are just "takers" by nature.

Lock your stuff up. Give the good neighbor the key, don't leave it hanging around.

Locks keep honest people honest and fences make for good neighbors.

Oh hell no!!!! At this point I would contact the police. The urine alone is a biohazard. Vandalism and when he grabbed your arm when you attempted to take back your things that is assault.

Ya, I would have had to call someone. Marina manager, harbor master, cops, someone. Oh and the guy would have had a ***** whippin coming to him.;)

Well..one hell of a way to start the week...met the county police and marina manager down there @ 6:00AM,The couple were aboard there boat, police questioned them..denied everything! Also couldn't figure out how dock box was opened..looked behind box...hinges are external...screws missing 2 per hinge...marina has security cameras..tapes are being reviewed...meanwhile manager refuses to boot the couple until review returns...meantime i came home to get "big truck" to pull boat, time for another bottom coat anyway, plus my pleasant demeanor is rapidly dissolving, and i see no reason not to allow a good warm-up of the Scarab prior to departure...there the only semi live a boards in the basin, and trying to sleep with twin 454's 8 feet away is impossible....this is not a good way to start week.

Oh man, that is too much. You showed very comendable restraint, and used the law instead of your fists. If the video doesn't pan out for you, then its time to start thinking of how to return the favor to these nice neighbors.

Suck up, and be nice. Pretend to be sorry and extend the helping hand. Help him out when he is drunk by helping to wash his boat down and accidentally filling their gas tank with water. Give him a hand with simple maintenance and remove/or loosen every screw you can find on the boat. Lines can be partially severed in an attempt to check their sea worthiness. Don't want to find the ropes rotten in the middle, right? Help him fix a gauge, then for some reason, no gauges work.

And leave him some nice bait tucked away somewhere on the boat when they are not home and forget to tell them about it. They will wonder for months what that disgusting smell is.

Push him off the dock into the water when ever possable, then laugh it off as an ongoing joke. (HA! Got you again! )

This should produce a most interesting escalation of war between you two. We will surely enjoy reading about it.

what a way to introduce yourself to folks when you are new to the marina. I sure hope the security cameras have him.

Maaaaan, this one is ugly . . . I don't understand the power or water thing though . . . Did he not have his own shore power cord? Hose? Was there simply no other outlet for him to use? Spigot? Weird

No future there. If he remains at the marina, consider moving your boat down a few slips. I am probably not to far off if I suggest he is an arrogant retired cop. Sure fits the profile. FRED

Wow, even my friends would not take such liberties! And I agree with PIF, probably a cop, who else could afford that kind of boat!!!!!

Uff da! You got a bad neighbor, for sure. If the video was operating, he'll be caught, and thrown out of the marina, I hope.

Took the screws out of the hinges...my word!

Don't be tempted to retaliate, though. That will negate your case, pretty much. No need to stoop to his level.

If the marina's videos don't pan out, shoot your own.

I can get you some stuff, in a 10cc syringe. Strategically places in dash seams, upholstery, radio mic, seat bases, etc. 10 cc should keep his boat stinkin to high heaven for months. Its good stuff, and legal to possess.

And if he wants to borrow your hose, let him. Heck, I'd even turn it on and place it in his boat -- after he leaves for the weekend. Watchout for those cameras though.

Dive mask - check. Fins - Check. Snorkel - Check. Crescent wrench - Check.

Look at what I found - a drain plug from the neighbors boat. I want to be a good neighbor, but don't to over tighten it, so put it back in perhaps a quarter of a turn.

There, I feel better helping a boating bud out.

One would think, that would be enough to get him turfed and charged for property damage and vandalism, no?
And he doesn't need to be a retired cop, he could be ex oil executive, after all they know they have all the power!:(
