I have a 1992 Bayliner Classic 2252 22' Cuddy Cabin with the 4.3 Alpha One...

The boat had a prefect maintenance record until it was bought by the P/O and for the last 5 years it has been neglected... 2.5 it sat unwinterized and prolly the last 6 months it sat uncovered outside...

I spent the last month (with a lot of help from you guys) getting the motor and outdrive back into shape. I finally got it finished and ran it on the water yesterday...

I noticed that after I launched her and she sat for a few minutes while parking the truck and getting ready she had about 2 inches of water in the bilge around the motor... I figured no problem prolly left overs from the front bilges that finally drained back...

I ran it for a couple hours on the lake and it seemed fine the water was gone with a switch of the bilge pump and then it didn't take on much... after that...

I parked it over night and slept on it. It had been sitting about 30mins to an hour and there was water up to the bottom of the block and there was about an inch deep in the front bilge...

I think this is way too much water in that short of a time... I didn't see any major holes in the hull. The bellows looked ok from a visual inspection... I can't tell where the water is coming from...

Where could it be coming from? How can I find out where? How to fix it?

Well if there's no major holes in the hull, then I would guess it would have to be coming from the bellows, outdrive to transom seal, or a bad through hull. If you don't know when the last time the bellows were replaced I would start there as they probably need it anyways.

Yes the plug was in! LOL

That was one of my first thoughts. I am not positive it was a good seal... I was thinking of checking to see if the the old plug it came with made a good seal or not...

Will a bellows leak cause that much water to come in? I thought the bellows only kept the out drive dry... Water flows through the exhaust bellows so I didn't think that could get in the boat... Then the drive coupler sealed the drive shaft area?

It has a new gasket on the where the outdrive attaches to the gimble housing...

By through hull do you mean the drain in the back?

You would have wayyyyyy more water in there if your plug was out..trust me i know lol.. um i would check around the outdrive.. the thru hull that he mentioned is most likely where you put your plug.. .. make sure thats sealed properly .. also.. if you can put the boat on the trailer take the hose and put some water in the boat .. i had two 1/8 inch holes that i found that way. check any other holes that are below the water line and make sure their sealed

Funny thing is mines doing the same thing although not quite as bad. Mine came on sudden. One outing it was fine, the very next as we sat at the dock after about 4 hours of tubing, the bilge kicked on to my suprise (Its never had to do that before). Then the following weekend (last week) it was pretty full again. I do have to admit, we've never tubed that hard and some could be from the cap line. When I got it home I did an inspection of the area inside and out. no trace of water influx and all the bellows looked good. I'm going out tomorrow and step one will be to find the intrusion...I'll update if I find it

The drive bellow will allow a large amount of water in depending on the tear/crack/breach. The shift cable bellow will allow a smaller steady stream, I'm sure both are cashed.

Consumable's and straightforward to fix.

I have the parts on hand to replace all the bellows... I am just a little intimidated on fixing it myself and I was in a rush to get it in the water...

Tips on bellows replacement anybody?
