Taking on water

I put my boat in a slip this weeked. When I went back the next day i noticed I had taken on quite a bit of water. What could be the problem? My baot is a 1990 VIP 19 footer.

Did it rain? It could be the gimbal leaking if it;s an i/o. Can you give more info on the boat? Pics would help too.

I am wondering the same thing. Is it normal to bilge out some water everyday. We had our boat in the water for 5 days (beached it at night) and pumped 2 to 4 quarts of water out every day. We did have a lot of activity in the boat with 3 kids and a soggy choc. lab.

We just bought a 1990 VIP Vision with an OMC 4.3 Cobra Drive. We also put it in the water and left it a few days. Without rain, within a few hours there was water in bildge. Automatic bilge pump taking care of it but I pulled it out and studied. Couldn't figure it out. I removed the ski ladder from below the deck and siliconed some shorter screws thing water might be entering there. No fix.

If you have it out of the water fill the bilge with a garden hose or bucket and look for drips. what goes in will also leak out most of the time. common areas: Drain plugs (the black rubber ones break down after several years), bilge pump hose to hull fitting (look for a split in the hose at the fitting, back flow ( if your overboard is at or just above the water line when waves slap the boat are you back flowing thru the pump), did someone drill a hole in your boat? ( Trim tabs, sonar, under water lights, and bad ideas)

I will fill the bildge and watch like you recommended with plug in. Why I didn't think of that, I don't know. Also, a marine mechanic told me to inspect the u-joint bellow for a tear or hole. I will do both. Thanks for the input

I think mine is back flowing through the pump. Will check on the next outing. Thanks Salt shaker.
