Are there any tricks on taking my freaking outdrive off, and how heavy is it? Its only going to be two people taking it off. Is there some sort of stand I can make to put it on? Any advice on this would help. Should I have a mercruiser place take it off? I'm not sure if this is in right forum. I've unfortunely have to replace transom.

There's 8 Nuts holding the Outdrive,........<br /><br />It Weighs about 80lbs.,..... I carry them around by Myself.....<br /><br />You can Build a Stand,..... Search the Archives,..... There's Pictures,+ All......<br /><br />Your going to need a couple of Manuals as well,........ 1 for your Motor,+ 1 for your Drive..........

you could make a square out of 2x4's and put it on a 1 ton jack and strap down the out drive to it so it doens't just fall off. Then take the bolts off this way. Once off just carry it like Bondo said.

The bottom right bolt when facing transom is broken, I can't get the bolt out. I haven't taken the engine out yet either and I can't get to it from inside the boat. Can I drill the out? It seems to be the only thing keeping it on the boat, is the something else wrong?

Needs to also be shifted into forward gear also if it hasn't been mentioned.

Are you trying to Remove the Outdrive,....???????<br /><br />Or the Transom Assembley,..??????<br /><br />If you're pulling the Whole Thing,......<br />Slow Down,+ Take it Off in Pieces,...... Outdrive 1st,..... <br />Then the transom Assembley,....AFTER the Motor is Pulled......<br /><br />The Broken Bolt, is 1 of the 2 Aluminum Bolts,.....<br />If you take it apart In Order,.... It's a Non-Issue..........<br /><br /><br />Outdrive 1st,.....<br />Then the Engine,......<br />Then the Inner,+ Outer Transom Assembleys.....

UH! I'm doing this all backwards then, Bondo, I have to replace transom its rotted so I need to get everything off. Outdrive, engine, transom assembley. Is that why I can't get the bolt that is broken off to come lose? Can I drill it out? Or should I take the motor out and get to in from inside? I will take motor out and try.

I'm Not sure What you're Doing........<br /><br />If it's the Bolt I believe it Is,.....<br /><br />There's a Nut on the Inside........<br /><br /><br />"Outdrive 1st,.....<br />Then the Engine,......<br />Then the Inner,+ Outer Transom Assembleys....."

Re: taking outdrive off!!

Well thanks for the help. took outdrive, engine, then transom off. The bottom right bolt was broken in two. Talk about a rotted transom, rot juice was everywhere. I can't believe my o/d had not fallen of the boat. Now for the hard part new floor and stingers and transom.
