My tank is higher than the carbs on my pontoon boat as well. There has been oil in the carbs and all over the plugs for over a year and your thread just gave me the problem. There is oil all over the breather and in the "Bilge."

I'm guessing a decarb will not solve my problem. What should I do? The 2002 90hp Johnson has been spuddering and stalling out. I'm guessing this is the reason why. I'm new to outboards so talk down to me so I can understand.

a decarb is not going to solve your problem. 1st, you are either going to have to convert your motor, on move your oil tank, to the platform beside the motor, so the tanks is not higher than the motor. what is happening, when the motor is off, the siphon effect is still letting oil into the carbs. so when you go to start it, the fuel/oil/air mixture is all screwed up. the carb cannot work properly.

2nd now that you have decided what you are doing with the oil tank. you need to clean the carbs, and get all the crud out of them. running it will not cure the problem.

usually after getting these two solved the motor will clean itself up, in about 15 minutes.
