Re: Tasered by Utah Highway Patrol

Cracks me up when people complain about the cops being a little rougher than they think they should, then Kenneth Brown would have no trouble killing someone for supposedly groping his wife. Assuming, of course, that he's not just acting tough and talking crap. QUOTE]

Not talking crap at all, my folks didn't raise a coward. When I became a cop it was to TRULY PROTECT and SERVE, not this bs that many try to pull off as LE work. I saw way too many bad cops when I was a kid. I also saw a few I had nothing but the ultimate respect for too. I vowed that I would be the one to do the right thing, even if it looked wrong. I wasn't and will never be a snitch but I'd be damned if someone was gonna put me in a situation to have to lie for them.
Back to me snuffing off Barney Fife. If the system repeatedly fails to do its job then its time to take action. I find my wife attractive although she's not a runway model. She's not the type I would expect to be groped. If she said it then I would believe it. If the system let her down (and it has let others down also) you better beleive that I'd handle up. Sure a good ol fashioned azz whooping would be a much better choice and maybe thats what I should have said, no, that IS what I should have said.

I'll step out and let ya'll two get back to your pissing match.

The citation that the kid would not sign had all the information that he wanted. The side of the road is not the place to argue a ticket, if a LEO stops you he believes you have broken the law. Little you do will make them change their mind. If he ask why were you speeding, answer it and you might get away. If he dont ask, he dont want to know, tell it to the judge. If you want to play "lawyer" in the side of the road you better know what you are doing.
Speeding is illegal, no following the commands from a LEO is illegal, resisting the arrest is illegal, being a cop with a bad attitude is not.

Re: Tasered by Utah Highway Patrol

I was stopped by a tropper the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The officer told by I was doing 78 in a 45 ( this was a four lane highway ) . I didnt even make a facial expression ecept for maybe a nod and a smile. 10 min. later he came back and gave me a verbal warning.

BTW as soon as I pulled over I rolled all the windows down and had license and reg. in each hand resting on the steering wheel.

Many, if not most of us work with the public. Sales, service, etc. What could be more challenging than dealing with an unreasonable, uneducated, person who doesn't realize that the cop is only the first step in the process. You can go to court and plead your case to a "neutral" third party for anything from a parking ticket to murder. This means little to those who believe "the customer is always right". Those of us who deal in these situations know that the customer is more often than not wrong.

In my training of new employees I usually start out with the statement that respect is earned, titles mean little, and the cut of your suit even less. Inspire a person to believe in you because of your knowledge, disposition, and the way you "listen" and you will always have the upper hand. The man who raises his voice or uses profanity or loses control will ALWAYS be the loser.

Being a cop is the most challenging profession I can think of because the outcome of all situations will reflect on you professionally. Do to little and someone gets hurt, you are the goat. Do to much and you are labled a tyrant. In as much as this was a simple speeding ticket and not a domestic violence issue or something of public threat, the cop clearly didn't get it. He had all of the guys info. He was getting a ticket. Walk away.

If you talk to a cop the way you talk (ed) to your father you will always be in the right church. I will have spirited debates with my dad, but I will never question his integrity or sincerity.

Todays political correct mentality hamstrings our law enforcement. The tazer has to be preferable from a lawsuit perspective as the marks it would leave won't have the emotional impact that a nightstick to the head, or worse a gunshot would. And heaven forbid he actually touch a person. I am against the way the cop handled this but if he had used mace, we would have folks talking about how so-and-so died from being maced. I also think that just because they are public servants doesn't mean they can be insulted or ridiculed by a person. Why is it some think that they can treat someone in a particular way based on where they derive their paychecks? Only an idiot would try to claim "free speech" rights in situations like this. Those should be additional infractions in my opinion. And if we had laws that addressed this, then I think that by default the police would encounter less resistance to insignificant issues such as this.

From Kenneth Brown:
Not talking crap at all, my folks didn't raise a coward.

Maybe not, hard to tell whether that's true or not based on what someone posts on a forum. Talk is cheap.

But they sure didn't raise someone very smart. Cops probably wouldn't have to worry much about the "staged accident" someone dumb enough to post about it on a public forum would come up with!

From Kenneth Brown:
I've got enough experiance to stage the accident that claimed his life.

The cops around here seem to want to shoot rather than taser people. I know for a fact that a cop can arrest you without saying chit about your maranda rights and THEN GO TO COURT AND REPEAT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING YOU SAY and theres nuthin you can do about it...seen it happin. I repect the LAW but I have seen several cops that showed me they didnt deserve it. I could rant about it.......like the time I investigated and found out who broke into my house. Called the felony investigator and when I finally got him on the phone and started to tell him the info I had he interupted me and said he didnt have time to talk and would call me back,,,,,,,,its been 5 years and he still hasnt called back.......hows that for a bumb of a cop?

From Kenneth Brown:

For the first part I'll suffice it to say that I post my name, not my weapon......

Second part- You could be on to something here. Or maybe not.... If I was to do something foolish like this I, as someone trained to look for this behavior, and as a common citizen, would not be looking on the web for a "Tasered by Utah HP" to see if the subject planned it or not. I would however sieze his (my) computor and check for any signs of foul play. Thats where ya might be on to something. Being that I don't have any reasonable belief that I may be put into a situation whereas I would possibly put everything I've ever worked for in jeopardy I really see no harm.

I've been down this road here before and pissing matches never have a winner. I'll step down and allow you to be the hero that knows I'm really just a 13 yo kid that gets my lunch money taken everyday. Of course if thats not what you are implying I'll accept that too and admit I was wrong. Either way my fights over, I bow out.

Not implying anything at all. Just trying to have a coherent discussion without pissing matches, although that is pretty much impossible in this type of interchange. Too easy to mis-interpret what somebody types as opposed to what they meant.:)

See Les, I told ya we wasn't gonna fight. Two civilized people carrying on a conversation. We were misinterpreting what the other was saying. Now that all the cards are on the table it looks like I got a new buddy. Whouda thunk it? :)
