Re: Tater salad

Thanks Dan I stand corrected.

No Problem'o ;)

I'm a horseradish junkie though... If I'm eatin' a steak or fillet and have that coughing, teary eye, sinus's clean as a whistle look on my face, my wife always asks, "Why do you eat that stuff?

Because it's gooooood! :D

And when allergies attack or I have a stuffed up sinus.... Nothing clears them up like a big spoonful of horseradish.

Well wifeys making more tater salad today not much changed though, got the "CRUNCH" factor today from the radishes, and some red onions.

Tartar sauce too.

Most of the horseradish available has parsnip or something else added to tame it down a bit. I got a hold of some at a high end restaurant recently when I asked from some un-cut horseradish... Wholly balls of fire, the stuff was nuclear horseradish, had me teary eyed from the first bite. Good stuff!

Got horse radish growing in the wet part of the garden, big long white tap root.

Can't kill the stuff.

Re: Tater salad

This recipe is from an old better homes and gardens cook book that was passed down from my German grandma. This is in no way like the traditional style potato salad. It has a delicious taste of it's own and is one of my favorites.

German Potato Salad
1/2 pound bacon (10-12 slices)
1/2 pound chopped onion
2 tbs. all purpose flour
2 tbs. sugar
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp.celery seed
1/2 cup vinegar
6 cups sliced cooked potatoes
2 hard boiled eggs sliced
(optional)
Parsley and pimiento
Bacon curls

Cook bacon till crisp; drain and crumble. reserving 1/4 cup fat.
Cook onion in reserved fat till tender. Blend in flower, sugar, salt, celery seed, and a dash of pepper; add vinegar and 1 cup water; cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Add bacon, potatoes, and eggs; heat thoroughly, tossing lightly. Garnish with parsley, pimiento, and bacon curls. Serves 8 to 10.

Sounds just like the potato salad that my mother made when I was a little kid. I was a teenager before I ever had the one with mayo. Really good stuff.
